Today was day 29 of the P90X home fitness program and I started phase 2 today. In addition to some new exercise routines, I also had to make some changes to my diet…
During phase 2, the diet calls for an increase in carbs so I’m adding oatmeal and an extra serving of whole wheat bread or a whole wheat bagel. I really didn’t find it difficult to adjust, everything is still going really smoothly in the diet department.
The workout today was chest, shoulders and triceps. I have heard horror stories about this workout, but I actually loved it! I really got a great workout in today and didn’t experience even the slightest feelings of nausea. I followed chest, shoulders and tri’s up with Ab Ripper X, and this went great as well. I’m skipping the very last exercise of the ab workout (“Mason Twist”) as it bothers my lower back a bit. As time goes on and my core continues to strengthen, I’ll try doing this again and see how my back tolerates it.
I shared some of my day 28 P90X pictures with my Mom last night and she couldn’t believe the results so far in just 4 short weeks. I’m going to surprise her with the Power 90 program soon, so I’m trying to get her excited about the potential that these workouts have…
I received an email yesterday from Beachbody that my supplements have shipped, so hopefully I’ll receive them before the weekend rolls around. I’m looking forward to seeing how the supplements impact things. If you want to pick up the P90X program or any of the supplements that they offer, you can do so through the official Team Beachbody website.
Last but not least, I was still trying to figure out why my body fat percentage rose slightly in yesterday’s results — and I think I may have figured it out. The workouts from last week focused on conditioning and core, and weight and resistance training were temporarily suspended. I’m pretty sure that was the reason for the inconsistent reading, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it drops again this week as weight training is back in the mix. We’ll see…
That’s it for today’s update. Congrats to those of you who have commented that you’re just getting started with P90X, stay focused and disciplined and keep me posted! If you haven’t already done so, set up your free Team Beachbody account and start logging your workouts through WOWY. They give away some pretty cool prizes every day to those who are working out like $1,000 in cash, iPods, DVD players, and cameras… definitely check that out if you haven’t already done so.
Stay tuned!

1I Just did Chest Shoulders and Triceps today, and it is a good workout. A nice shakeup from phase one. Especially phase one of the lean program that takes one upper body workout per week out. I think you are correct about your bodyfat percentage. It is not uncommon for it to fluctuate a little even when you are lifting all the time, but I think the step down in the amount of resistance training in the recovery week is the cause. As long as you keep eating cleanly you will probably drop down again at the end of the week. Keep up the good work.

2@Mike: Yeah, I think that the body fat measurement will drop again this week too. Congrats on making it through phase one, keep crankin’!
