Well, today was day 31 of my P90X fitness program review (it’s hard to believe month 1 is over already) and I had a new workout today, back and biceps, followed by Ab Ripper X. Let me just say that this DVD is now my favorite, what a great workout!
The P90X back and biceps workout is right up my alley. I really love doing upper body and this routine really hit the spot…
Ab Ripper X went amazing today as well. It was actually the first time since I started the P90X program that I’ve been able to complete all 25 reps for wide leg sit-ups without pausing to take a break. Was it pretty? Err, not exactly — but I did it! It was also the fastest that I’ve completed the abs workout to date.
Also, I was taking a break from the last ab exercise which is called “Mason Twist” because it was tweaking my lower back a bit. A fellow P90X’er mentioned that he experienced the same thing and began doing the Mason Twist routine with his feet on the ground. I tried this today and it worked great! I obviously didn’t get anywhere near the type of workout that comes with elevating the legs, but I could still feel my abs firing and most importantly — no back pain.
Last but not least, the UPS man showed up this afternoon with the Beachbody supplements that I ordered. I’ll post a review of each of them tomorrow, but so far I really like them. The P90X Recovery Drink tastes exactly like an orange dreamsicle — very tasty!
Well, that’s it for today’s “P90X fitness program progress report”. Thanks again for all of the great comments, and stay tuned for those supplement reviews…

1JP, excellent job making it through the first month! You have been a huge inspiration already for me, seeing how dedicated you are and so forth. What is your diet like, since you are doing the portions and all?

2@Anthony: Thanks, I appreciate it!
As far as my diet goes, I have a 2 cup egg white omelet for breakfast along with a glass of skim milk, bowl of oatmeal, a glass of low-sodium V8 juice, and a shot of olive oil. I’ve mainly been snacking between meals on celery sticks and natural peanut butter, low-fat string cheese, and jerky.
Meal #2 is usually a couple cans of tuna, a glass of skim milk, a cup of raw veggies (carrots or cucumbers normally), and a whole wheat bagel.
I often eat a half sub from Subway for meal #3, and go with chicken breast on whole wheat with lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and tomato. I finish the meal off with a bowl of fat-free cottage cheese or fat-free yogurt topped off with fresh blueberries and strawberries.
Hope that helps!

4@James: Thanks, it’s great to hear that you’re getting started as well!
If you haven’t already done so, set up a free WOWY account and be sure to log your stats and daily workouts. You can win some pretty cool stuff just by working out and logging it in the system. Also, be sure that you take before photos — looking at your progress pictures is a great motivator…
Keep me posted once you get started!

5JP. I am about two weeks behind you, just wrapping up my third week of P90X this Saturday. I am finding it hard to stay with only two fruits in a day. I usually have a glass of grapefruit juice for breakfast and often a banana as the early snack, that leaves 0 fruits for later in the day. Maybe switching to vegetable juice would be a good substitution. If you can get it in your area, you should check out the Boars Head Cajun Style Turkey if you’re looking for easy non-egg/non-powder protein. I can snack on that stuff all day long. My favourite receipe so far from the book is the steak and arugola salad, that thing is easy to make and rocks.

6@Tiny: I’m a big fan of fruit also and it’s tempting to have a few more servings throughout the day but I stick to one. Try the low-sodium, V8 for breakfast… I was never a fan of tomato juice but I’ve gotten used to it and actually enjoy it now.
Thanks for the tip on the Boars Head Turkey, I’ll see if any of the stores stock BH meat around here…
Thanks for the comment and keep me posted with your progress!
