Today is day 49 of my P90X DVD review and it’s time to post my latest measurements and photos. This week went great and I feel like I had a breakthrough moment in regards to the way that I feel overall…
Here are my progress photos taken this morning on day 49 of P90X:
And here are today’s photos compared with those taken on day 1 of P90X…
And here are my measurements after 6 weeks of P90X:
To be completely honest, at first I was pretty disappointed with the measurements because there really weren’t any week over week improvements — however, I’m not going to let one week of “off” results get me down. I’m not really sure why I didn’t drop any more weight or body fat this week, but I’m going to really try to take things to another level intensity-wise this week in an attempt to change that.
I am feeling better than ever, so that’s definitely a positive that I can take away from this week…
Stay tuned, and thanks again to all of you who have been reading and posting encouragement. You guys rock.

1Hey FLB!
Will definitely say that the pics speak for themselves. Don’t judge yourself by the way you look, judge by the way you feel first, then the way you look. If you feel great you will inevitably look great.
Also we are our own worst critics! So I commend you on a job well done! You may not know this (or maybe you do), but by just sticking with it you are an inspiration to us all!
Keep up the good work!

4I think you are doing really well. It is very apparent that you are very committed to this.
I’ve been reading your blog since I started (I am on day 10 – wow, how fast time flies), and I have enjoyed reading your posts after I finish whatever the day’s routine is to see what your thoughts were. It has made me chuckle on more than one occasion.

9I am considering this program and was wondering, did you do any prep work before starting this or consult your physician? I am overweight and a smoker – don’t want to blow a valve but need to do someting and this seems appropriate for my goals.

July 25th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
10@Sutekh: It is recommended that you take the P90X Fit Test prior to starting the program. If you cannot meet the minimums laid out, it would be best to begin with the Power 90 program.

12Hi – I was thinking about starting the program, one question I had was, do you recommend using weights or resistance bands? I’ll need to order or buy something either way, but what do you think is more beneficial? Can you offer any advice on where to order the bands or weights from; I’ve done some research, but a second opinion doesn’t hurt.
Also, great work! Its nice to know you’re out there doing this and motivating people like me to turn my life around.
Keep it up!

13Oh, sorry – also, what about the pull up bar? Will any ordinary doorway bar work?
Thanks again!
Fat Loss Blogger
July 26th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
14@Peter: Personally, I prefer weights and recommend the PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells. They’re the best adjustable dumbbell set in my opinion.
As far as the P90X program, resistance bands, pullup bar, recovery drink, etc., I would recommend purchasing them directly from the official Beachbody online store.
As far as the pull-up bar goes, I would stick to the Beachbody doorway pull-up bar. While there are many different doorway bars on the market — many of them are of poor quality and will bend, break, or cause damage to the doorways in your home.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, fire away. 🙂

15well, put in my order today. I am 320 and 31. main worry is that I dont see any reports from seriously overweight people on this program. For the first time in a long time I am excited to start losing weight and getting into shape.
Where do I find a good sized rubber mat to work out on?
I will keep in touch.
thanks ,

16@JW: Congrats, that’s great!
Have you taken the P90X fit test yet? As long as you can do the minimum requirements laid out, you should be fine.
Regarding the large rubber mat, I actually use a rubber treadmill mat that I purchased nearby at a sporting goods mega-store. It works great.
Good luck with the program and keep me posted!

17Hi FLB!
I’m waiting on my shipment of hell on plastic discs, commonly referred to as P90X! I guess I didn’t notice all of the infomercial folks looked slightly fitter than me. I will say, I most resemble your build on your day one; I have a treadmill I hit about twice a week and manage 2-3 miles around 6 mph, and occasionally bench. and do abs. Thanks for your blog, it gives me inspiration. I am like most, been hitting the couch way too long. I am quite confident, however, but have been eating bad for about 20? years and the diet scares me the most. I will bookmark your page and use your success for my drive. Congrats, man, keep up the good work!

24I just ordered my dvds today. I spent a few days research and reading all of the blogs. I started getting in shape on my own back in december and Ive managed to lose 113 lbs as of today but I have reached a wall and I just cant break it on my own. I think this p90x will seriously get me out of my wieght loss/ muscle biulding rut that ive found myselft in. I want to lose maybe another 10 oo so pounds and gain more muscle and more core strength. After seeing your photos. I wish I took a before photo back in december. But I will take one before I start this program. Good luck with your program! BTW im 39 yrs old and 6’9″

25HEY FLB!
Nice job…keep it going. I work out regularly with an old Bowflex and some weight, but have plateaued in getting any noticeable results. P90X sounds like what I’ve been looking for to get over the hump.
I do have questions regarding the diet portion of the program: How many calories do they cut out of your daily diet (%) and are you starving at the end of the day???

26Hey. My name is Rusty and I’ve been thinking about getting the P90X work out.
I have a few questions. How much space do I need? Will my living room work? I have everything, but the pull up bar. If I stay a few nights every other week at another location can I still do this work out? (Hotels)
I’m in pretty good shape I use an elliptical for an hour 3-4 days per week. Will I be alright?

27Do you have to use the nutrition plan to get the results? I’m a typical bachelor and I hate cooking for myself… I’d rather eat healthier “fast foods” such as lean cuisine… Would that work for this program?

Congrats on your achievements! I ordered the stuff last night and opted for the express shipping. I can’t wait to start. I’m sick of being overweight. The one story that really inspired me was watching the testimonial with a former Army Ranger. I can 100% identify with that. I also was a Army Ranger and got out about 5 years ago. The last few years really got the best of me, had a lot of personal issues and now I think I’m back on my feet. I’m ready to get my act together and start making some time to get back into shape. My wife and I both want to make the change. I want to be more active with my kids and get into competitive sports again. Man, I have really gotten lazy…..
Cheers to change!

35Rusty – yeah FatLossBlogger is totally correct. My entire 31 days have been in my living room, however I strongly recommend a fan – that helps A LOT. I’ve just got dumbells, pushup bars, and bands. The floor space I think is just a 10×10 foot area. That is one of the things that really attracted me to this program. No stinking tread mills, huge machines or anything else like that. Most of the exercises are against your own body weight (when it comes to the leg work outs). And the rest is with dumbells and bands which work the other parts of the body.

38I wanted to post some comments as I have been doing the program for about 18 days.
If you don’t follow the eating plan, you don’t see the magnificent results. Also you have to eliminate your consumption of alcohol pretty much completely, in my opinion. I am in graduate school, and still drink about 10 drinks over 2 nights on the weekends, and eat pretty clean during the week (I’d put it at 85% clean). With that being said, I don’t have similiar results weight loss wise, but I attribute that to my lack of giving up alcohol (as I’m enrolled in 24 hours, and it provides the additional necessary social life, and stress relief I find that I need).
If I would completely clean up all that, I would imagine I would have lost around 5-7lbs based on my exertion level and what I have done in the past.
The videos that first week will kick your butt, and that is no joke. I am in pretty good shape and was previously hitting the gym for about 1 hour per day, 5 days a week minimum, and lift weights hard 2 days, and cardio for the other 3 days. After the second week, the workouts become easier, to the point that I decided to start adding in an additional 2-3 miles of cardio about 2-3 times a week after my workout. I’ve found that this really wears me out, and I need to increase my water consumption accordingly. If one were to make it through workout 15, I would imagine they have no reason (other than injury) to not be able to finish the program with flying colors.
Results— Here is what you’re most likely interested in. On Day 1, I could not finish all the pushups, but as of yesterday, I meet and exceeded my previous pushups by at least 4 pushups in all the workouts, other than the second set of Diamond pushups (which cumulatively knock me out). My chest size for suits has decreased from a 50 to a 48. My waist size has decreased from a 41 to a 38.5 inch waist. My legs have slimmed (I don’t measure them), and so have my thighs. My arms are about the same, but my triceps, which are traditionally weaker for me, are much more defined.
Weightloss- I’ve lost about 2 lbs since I have started, and I haven’t had a chance to check bodyfat again. I think before I was at around 20%, and my previous best percentage had been 12% when I played football and wrestled.
Supplements I take while on P90x
-Multivitamin
-Creatine AKG Ethyl Ester (vitamin world tablets- 20 min pre workout)
-glucosamine/chondroitin (from Sam’s club/ Costco)
-Supplemental Calcium
-1 baby aspirin per day
-3 Omega Oil caps per day
-My Testosterone booster combo-
(1) Tribulus 250mg (2x day- morning, pre workout)
(2) maca Root- 1 cap per day at 500mg
(3) ZMA at night (per bottle instructions)
Post Workout
-L-glutamine with 25-50 mg Protein
-typically 1.5 scoop of Cytomax Cool Citrus (good carb source that isn’t sugar heavy, and is convenient)
-Creatine AKG (w/in 30 minutes of workout)

41I have a quick question for you, I am just starting the p90x in a couple weeks time, I have all of the equipment, nutrition plan and the program. I am now researching and pondering on which supplements I really need to take. Two I know for sure is the recovery formula and the whey protein shakes. Still undecided on protein bars. But here is my question; it says to drink the recovery formula 1 hour post workout right. But in the nutrition plan it says to drink the recovery drink and a protein at the mid morning snack everyday. I will be definitely working out in the evening, so does this mean I need to drink the recovery formula twice daily? or just post workout? I would appreciate a response on your knowledge of the program. Thanks. I am so pumped to get rollin on this thing, it looks like it works awesome.
Cheers

42FLB,
Congrats on everything you have accomplished so far! It is so cool to see the week by week changes. My fiance and I started the P90X workout 2 1/2 weeks ago. The first week was crazy -totally kicked our butt! But now that we are in the third week it seems a little easier than at first. I can already tell a difference – my endurance is building and my clothes fit better. I hope that we have as much success with our workout as you have. Good Luck and way to go! Please keep posting the pics, they are a great motivation!

43hey man your results have really inspired me to order P90X. whats kind of bothering me though is that all of the people that are starting this program have worked out before in the past. im 17, and I have asthma, and working out has always been an issue for me before, but my symptoms are not as severe now as they were when i was younger. so would it be a bad idea to jump right into this without any prior workouts? i weigh 217lbs., and a 40 inch waist. i have a similiar build to you when you first started the program. i already eat fairly healthy ( by healthy i mean i dont ever eat sweets ), but fast, and definitely american, foods are not helping. thoughts?

50@fat guy: The first few weeks are the hardest as your body has a lot of adjusting to do, hang in there…
I would probably just go through the P90X nutrition guide and find the foods that are least expensive, then focus on building full meals out of those using the portions approach.
If you are trying to eat healthy while on the go, I would recommend Subway’s $5 footlongs. Get a chicken breast or turkey sub on whole wheat, pile on the veggies, leave out the mayo and dressing.

52In my experience, the biggest results came in Phase III. At Day 60, I still felt (and looked) like a cow. I was SHOCKED at how far I came in the next 30 days.
BTW, I really didn’t follow the nutrition plan as suggested. I was definitely aware of what I was putting in my body, but I just don’t have the patience for a detailed diet plan. . . so to the writer above who insists you won’t see results without strictly following a diet, I respectfully disagree.
Way to inspire the masses! Keep up the good work!

54I’m day 9 into p90x and I have already noticed (it might be placebo, I don’t actually take the time to measure) a little more bulk (muscle gain) and a little bit of thinning. I already lost 46 pounds a few months prior following a strict 1200 calorie diet plan but now Im eating about 1500-1800 calories per day in accordance to p90x. I just wanna know, what was your calorie consumption (if you counted), how many carbohydrates, and how much protein were you getting (and was it before and or after the workouts)
I’m also planning to do P90X for a year, not just the 3 months.

56Awesome results, brother. Just awesome. Truth be told, I just ordered my P90X today. A couple years back, I used to be in pretty good shape. However, somewhere along the way life happened. I look at your day 1 pictures and I see pretty close to an exact copy of me now. I hate how I look and feel now and I finally said “Enough’s enough.”

76All I gotta say is BRING IT! I’m 20 days into the program and can’t get enough of it. I’m 25, and have a lot of friends calling me to hit up happy hours after work but I always decline. This workout will get you into a routine but it really does take over your life. (In a good way) I feel a lot stronger and feel much healthier. I eat healthy but I dont go crazy with it, I go out on a saturday night and order whatever knowing I’ll be burning it off the next day! Any body who is thinking of doing this program, you have got to commit! You have to want it, and have to be determined enough to just keep pushing play, push play and it’s on!
So to all you p90x’ers out there… BRING IT!

77FLB: You rock! You are such an inspiration to me and my finance! We just started the program together (day 3!) and we LOVE it! Your beginning build is not far off from his, and it’s great to see your progress. A friend’s page would be awesome.

78Hey FLB i just saw the infomercial about 1 in the morning and decided to see if I could find postings for scams on this. I gotta tell you the only thing I found with the word scam was your blog and it seems u are definitely convinced that it’s for real. Your results are impressive and I am now ready to try. Add about 20lbs to your week 1 pics and that would be me. I do have some questions though. Does it come with a step by step so that I know which discs to use first? If I am going to go with this then I want it done right. I want to see the results that you are seeing. Again, most impressive.

80I am almost a twin for your day one measurements. Here’s a twist, while I pass the test and have room to do the test exercises my problem will be the diet. I drive a truck across the country. So I’m trying to find a way to do this. I have a pullup bar and the weights. Both are in my truck and tested. I can do most stuff in my truck but also have room outside daily at anytime to use also. I have a cooler and Truckstop food at best. I need to find a place to put my diet or get a list of what I’ll need on a weekly basis. I can make a Walmart stop but only once a week due to my route. Any advice?

81Also, seeing how this is an old thread. Do you have the last 30 days posted with final pics? I’m stoked about P90X and friends are getting me pumped. Great story you have and looks like your succeeding.

82I am (female) almost finished phase 1 (lean), and I follow the schedule and also with my training of running , average 30 – 40KM weekly on top with P90X, but I have not yet drop pounds, but my size has been losing and dropping …. and my arms are toning as well. But in my scale, my body fat % and weigh are still the same. I am confusing about what is going on, if I gain muscle , why the body fat % not drop, still around 14-15%. Also I am on diet and follow the plan as much as I can.
