I just received an email from a reader who wants to get in shape, but he’s too busy for P90X…
Question: I’m thinking about buying P90X, but it’s saying I need an hour a day and I just don’t have more than 30-45”, max. Would this amount of time be sufficient? I’m willing to take more time to get in better shape, just wondering if the entire hour is required, or just suggested. Thanks…
Answer: Thanks for the question…
That’s the one thing about P90X, it does require a bit more time than other fitness programs. Would it be possible to do an hour every other day? If so, you could simply turn P90X into a 180 day program and workout every other day instead of daily.
Another option would be to try Beachbody’s 10 Minute Trainer program, which allows you to get a nice workout in in 10 minutes a day. It’s great for people who are busy, or who just don’t like to workout. I
got my Mom on the Ten Minute Trainer program and she absolutely loves it.
Do you have a question about P90X? If so, shoot me an email at p90xquestions-AT-gmail-DOT-com and I’ll do my best to help out!

1My P90 X package is on the way! I’m greatly looking forward to getting in WAY better shape! My question is this, I’m turning 30 in November, weigh 245 lbs, are the results posted anywhere for someone in that weight category? I’ve seen that most results show someone who started out weighing less than 200 lbs. Can I really expect these same results starting out in such bad shape?

2Absolutely! It just may take you 2 or three rounds. That may sound bad but trust me once you finish the 90 days you will WANT to keep going. I did the first 90, took a month off then felt like I HAD to start back. I am 2 weeks from finishing round 2.
But back to your question. My boyfriend is 2 weeks away from finishing his first 90 days (he loved the results I acheived). He started out weighing 230lbs at 5ft 10in. Trust me there wasn’t much muscle. He is below 200lbs now and I can already see his chest and shoulders developing and the first hints of a 6 pack. He will need at least one more round but he has lost 2 pant sizes in less than 3 months. He can’t believe how fast and well it works.
Be prepared to buy a new wardrobe! That is our only problem. Hard economic times and closets full of clothes that are too big!. Good Luck!

3That is really encouraging too hear. I was about to think that this program was only good for folks who were already semi-fit, but thanks for the post talking about the 2-3 rounds.

5While you can potentially start in poor shape – there are moves that you should be able to do before you start. I can’t do a pull-up or push-up without help. A lot of the workouts include pushups/pullups and it is hard to work the muscle groups they are targeting if you can’t do them. Some of the pushups you can’t do on your knees, so make sure you find another exercise to do. I am having great results so far – 60 days left

6I think you can also modify the P90X program to meet the person’s needs if they really have time constraints or wish to start P90X but can’t commit 100% to the 6 days a week program. From my experience, my female friends liked to get a taste of the program, so they would start 3-4 days a week and slowly move up to 6 days a week (depending on their goals, you would load their workouts with a balance of strength/cardio or more towards cardio for lean).
Also, in the P90X book/manual that comes with the P90X box, Tony Horton explains that after the 90 days, if you have time restraints, you should do at least the first half of the workouts since 80% of the workout benefits comes from the first 30 minutes (which I have tried as a maintenance resolution and it has worked. You’ll have to watch your caloric intake more though).

8I just ordered my p90x and am waiting by the mailbox for it to arrive! But, I did have a question about after the 90 days. Do I just start the rounds over until I meet my weight goals, and once I meet my goals do I keep doing the workouts for weight maintenance?
