If you’ve recently seen the P90X infomercial, you may very well be wondering, “Is P90X a scam?” In fact, that’s the very question that I was asking myself not too long ago.
Due to the fact that Beachbody mainly sells P90X through their infomercials, it has the potential to plant seeds of doubt among those who have a higher developed and more sensitive “ripoff radar”. This is unfortunate.
If you’re in that camp, I understand. However, I’m also here to tell you that this program is the real deal.
Having said that, P90X isn’t an overnight “quick fix” or a miracle pill. It is intense. It will test your dedication and resolve. But if you’re willing to follow the program exactly as it’s laid out (and yeah, I’m talking about the nutrition plan as well), you really can’t help but see results.
So — if you’re on the fence and trying to decide whether or not you should order P90X, I encourage you to go for it. Everything is already laid out for you, all you have to do is put forth the effort.

2@Don: You can bulk up with P90X by doing two things:
1. Make sure that you’re following the diet plan and eating enough calories.
2. During the workouts, make sure that you’re using higher weights and doing lower reps.

3Hey, umm I’m really really strapped for cash so the nutrition plan is going to be hard to follow seeing as how healthier foods seem to be more expensive then the crap that makes you fat. Any other cheap substitutes I can try??

4Try starting to cut on your sugar intake as well as your carbs like bread, rice, anything that has a crust….and just drink as much water as possible. Also try not to eat fried foods. I know it’s gonna be difficult but you can do it.

5I have been on the program for about 9 weeks now. I have lost 17lbs. The nutrition plan that comes with it is very good, yet for me not realistic. I work funky work schedules. The workout itself is great though and can be fit into my daily activities. I just increased my grilled chicken/fish and cut back on the carbs. Grilled lots of veggies and added small amounts of carbs..I just bought the recovery drink from P90x…expensive, but of all the energy drinks I have found, I really like the taste of this one and it has helped bring back my energy levels after workouts.

6I am about to get the p90x but my wife daughter and I live in a very small trailer, is there any other way to work the same muscles as a pull-up without the bar?

7AJ – You can use the resistance bands instead of the chin-up bar. They show you all the different ways you can do each exercise. I am in my 5th day of P90x and I can’t get enough…..BRING IT

8Yes, if you buy the bands you can do it.
Also, on P90X carbs are not a bad thing. As long as you do not have them in excess. Carbs GIVE you energy, and a lot of the time it is important to get enough of them to provide your body. Since the workouts are SO intense, you need the calories. Cutting down on unhealthy food is one thing, but cutting down on food in general is not a good idea. Calories are good, as long as they are good calories.

9p90x is not a scam, it works, just make the decision, you can do it if you are consistent and have the drive. Best workout package you will ever need for a while, took me 10 years to learn everything on my own, what they summed up in an evening of reading, and the intro video

10I know some people think it’s more expensive to eat healthier, but it really isn’t. The key is to make sure that you’re not buying things and wasting them, so yep, you may have to visit the grocery store a few more times a week, but in the long run, it works out. I also don’t think that it’s necessary to be in great shape when you start this program. Admittedly, I started at a higher level than most, but Tony does say “take a break if you need it”. It’s ok to take a break, but you don’t take one until you have no choice. You work as hard as you can. You’ll see results. If you are starting from a lower level, when you start these workouts you’ll see results, even without making changes in your diet (I’m not suggesting that you don’t try). The first time that I did P90X, I did the routines only, and loved it! This time around, I’m sticking to it by the book. Modify for what works for you, and what you want/expect to achieve, and at the end you’ll be happy! No doubt, P90X rocks!

12I am considering getting p90x but am afraid it will make me bulk up. Every commercial I’ve seen people are ripped, I want to have great muscle tone but I don’t want to look like a girl on steroids. Is this going to make me bulky?

13Regarding getting bulky: No you do not need to get bulky at all. There are two way to get toned but not bulky: 1. Follow the regulary P90X routine but do more reps of each exercise (say 15 instead of 8). The other way is to follow the “Lean” version of P90X which focuses more on cardio workouts.

14P90X is amazing. I didn’t pass the fitness test, however I started anyways and modified through out. I have the beginnings of abs for the first time in my life and I can do push ups for the first time in my life!! P90X is the real deal and worth every penny you pay for it. It may take me 180 days to get to the fitness level they are at in the video, but I will get there!!! You have a choice to bulk up or tone up and Tony instructs the whole way through. I recommend it to anyone!!

15My husband is a truck driver and uses P90X every day in his truck. YEAH it is possible !!!!! He got me one to use and I have been on it over 60 days . I was way over 100 lbs overweight and didn’t eat healthy at all. It has been very difficult because of my size but I have lost over 40 lbs . I can’t get all my reps in and my form stinks and yes I have skipped several days , but I am getting better each week. It is a very hard struggle but even this very fat girl can see results. After day 90 I am going to start again and maybe someday I WILL be able to do 1 pull-up.

18People worry about bulking up. Mine is the opposite problem. I’m a hardgainer extreme. I’ve got a top of the line gym and tried every workout and even tried some of these fast line to health type things and they want you to eat like 6 times a day and eat so much protein. It’s like trying to eat a whole meal every time you turn around. That’s unreasonable unless you have absolutely no life. I’d like to connect with “1″ person that is a true blue hardgainer that’s made it through it.

19I have a question for those of you who have tried this program. I just had my 3rd kid 6 weeks ago. My core strength is abysmal and I need to get back in to shape. I have 3 kids under the age of 4, so no time for the gym. I’m at a healthy weight but, like I said, my fitness level is pretty poor right now. I’m also eating a ton right now because I’m breastfeeding and my little munchkin eats a lot. She gained 4 pounds this month! So, will I be able to start on this program given my current level of fitness (6 weeks ago my abs were stretched 1.5 feet out in front of my body) and be able to eat enough calories to do this and breastfeed a very hungry baby? I don’t like supplementing my diet with protein powders, etc. when breastfeeding.

20I would like to start this program for myself as well as my son to help him get through the police academy.
My question is this: I have a previous back injury and I am very overweight, will I be able to perform these routines? They seem pretty intense.

21How reasonable is the diet. I suppose its a continuous menu of beans. I don’t like beans. Are there substitutes for some of the food items on the nutrition plan for those of us that may have dislikes. Just to make clear, I do like salads vegetables etc., and I am not trying to get out of eating healthy.

22I’ve been having some doubts about the p90x and wondering if it actually works or not. I watched infomercials for it and I wanted it cause they made it seem like it really works, so I ordered it yesterday because I’m tired of looking the way i do. and i want to get muscle and abs so i don’t half to go to the lake and half to suck in my stomach every time a hot girl comes by. I know its funny but i just want something to work for me, i cut out my cold drinks 2 days ago and now I’m only drinking water and milk, I’m just ready for a change, I’ve also been reading everybody’s comments on here and it seems that p90x does work, I’m giving it a shot so here it goes

25Beth, I just wanted to say that I completely understand not being able to keep up and your form being sloppy but be cautious. I have been in the military for 10 years and I can tell you 1 thing about exercising that is most crutial. Form is more important than repetition. When doing an exercise correctly, you will move each muscle needed for that exercise. If you do not try to keep as best form as possible and do that continuously then it can cause pain in places because you may over work one area.
Example: when doing a push-up, your back should be straight, your arms aligned with your shoulders and your legs extended. If you are unable to keep your back straight and you have your legs extended, you can cause yourself to obtain severe lower back pain. My suggestion would be that you try to do as many correctly as possible and then when you can’t keep your back straight any longer. Go to your knees and put your feet in in the air and cross your ankles. From there you can keep your back straight easier and continue to do a good upper body form.
I hope that makes sense.

26Tried this when my son got it last year – too out of shape/overweight.
Got into a professionally managed (kinesiologists/dieticians/etc.) cardiac rehab program, and improved enough in six months to start the program. I have difficulty completing all the modules, so I stop whenever I feel I’m at my limit, and I don’t beat myself up over it.
The key is to go slow. Forget about 90 days if you are really out of shape. Think long-term lifestyle change. My goal is to be able to perform the whole program 6 months from now (one year after making the lifestyle change) and continue from then on.
