If you’ve recently seen the P90X infomercial, you may very well be wondering, “Is P90X a scam?” In fact, that’s the very question that I was asking myself not too long ago.
Due to the fact that Beachbody mainly sells P90X through their infomercials, it has the potential to plant seeds of doubt among those who have a higher developed and more sensitive “ripoff radar”. This is unfortunate.
If you’re in that camp, I understand. However, I’m also here to tell you that this program is the real deal.
Having said that, P90X isn’t an overnight “quick fix” or a miracle pill. It is intense. It will test your dedication and resolve. But if you’re willing to follow the program exactly as it’s laid out (and yeah, I’m talking about the nutrition plan as well), you really can’t help but see results.
So — if you’re on the fence and trying to decide whether or not you should order P90X, I encourage you to go for it. Everything is already laid out for you, all you have to do is put forth the effort.

2@Don: You can bulk up with P90X by doing two things:
1. Make sure that you’re following the diet plan and eating enough calories.
2. During the workouts, make sure that you’re using higher weights and doing lower reps.

3Hey, umm I’m really really strapped for cash so the nutrition plan is going to be hard to follow seeing as how healthier foods seem to be more expensive then the crap that makes you fat. Any other cheap substitutes I can try??

4Try starting to cut on your sugar intake as well as your carbs like bread, rice, anything that has a crust….and just drink as much water as possible. Also try not to eat fried foods. I know it’s gonna be difficult but you can do it.

5I have been on the program for about 9 weeks now. I have lost 17lbs. The nutrition plan that comes with it is very good, yet for me not realistic. I work funky work schedules. The workout itself is great though and can be fit into my daily activities. I just increased my grilled chicken/fish and cut back on the carbs. Grilled lots of veggies and added small amounts of carbs..I just bought the recovery drink from P90x…expensive, but of all the energy drinks I have found, I really like the taste of this one and it has helped bring back my energy levels after workouts.

6I am about to get the p90x but my wife daughter and I live in a very small trailer, is there any other way to work the same muscles as a pull-up without the bar?

7AJ – You can use the resistance bands instead of the chin-up bar. They show you all the different ways you can do each exercise. I am in my 5th day of P90x and I can’t get enough…..BRING IT

8Yes, if you buy the bands you can do it.
Also, on P90X carbs are not a bad thing. As long as you do not have them in excess. Carbs GIVE you energy, and a lot of the time it is important to get enough of them to provide your body. Since the workouts are SO intense, you need the calories. Cutting down on unhealthy food is one thing, but cutting down on food in general is not a good idea. Calories are good, as long as they are good calories.

9p90x is not a scam, it works, just make the decision, you can do it if you are consistent and have the drive. Best workout package you will ever need for a while, took me 10 years to learn everything on my own, what they summed up in an evening of reading, and the intro video

10I know some people think it’s more expensive to eat healthier, but it really isn’t. The key is to make sure that you’re not buying things and wasting them, so yep, you may have to visit the grocery store a few more times a week, but in the long run, it works out. I also don’t think that it’s necessary to be in great shape when you start this program. Admittedly, I started at a higher level than most, but Tony does say “take a break if you need it”. It’s ok to take a break, but you don’t take one until you have no choice. You work as hard as you can. You’ll see results. If you are starting from a lower level, when you start these workouts you’ll see results, even without making changes in your diet (I’m not suggesting that you don’t try). The first time that I did P90X, I did the routines only, and loved it! This time around, I’m sticking to it by the book. Modify for what works for you, and what you want/expect to achieve, and at the end you’ll be happy! No doubt, P90X rocks!

12I am considering getting p90x but am afraid it will make me bulk up. Every commercial I’ve seen people are ripped, I want to have great muscle tone but I don’t want to look like a girl on steroids. Is this going to make me bulky?

13Regarding getting bulky: No you do not need to get bulky at all. There are two way to get toned but not bulky: 1. Follow the regulary P90X routine but do more reps of each exercise (say 15 instead of 8). The other way is to follow the “Lean” version of P90X which focuses more on cardio workouts.

14P90X is amazing. I didn’t pass the fitness test, however I started anyways and modified through out. I have the beginnings of abs for the first time in my life and I can do push ups for the first time in my life!! P90X is the real deal and worth every penny you pay for it. It may take me 180 days to get to the fitness level they are at in the video, but I will get there!!! You have a choice to bulk up or tone up and Tony instructs the whole way through. I recommend it to anyone!!

15My husband is a truck driver and uses P90X every day in his truck. YEAH it is possible !!!!! He got me one to use and I have been on it over 60 days . I was way over 100 lbs overweight and didn’t eat healthy at all. It has been very difficult because of my size but I have lost over 40 lbs . I can’t get all my reps in and my form stinks and yes I have skipped several days , but I am getting better each week. It is a very hard struggle but even this very fat girl can see results. After day 90 I am going to start again and maybe someday I WILL be able to do 1 pull-up.

18People worry about bulking up. Mine is the opposite problem. I’m a hardgainer extreme. I’ve got a top of the line gym and tried every workout and even tried some of these fast line to health type things and they want you to eat like 6 times a day and eat so much protein. It’s like trying to eat a whole meal every time you turn around. That’s unreasonable unless you have absolutely no life. I’d like to connect with “1″ person that is a true blue hardgainer that’s made it through it.

19I have a question for those of you who have tried this program. I just had my 3rd kid 6 weeks ago. My core strength is abysmal and I need to get back in to shape. I have 3 kids under the age of 4, so no time for the gym. I’m at a healthy weight but, like I said, my fitness level is pretty poor right now. I’m also eating a ton right now because I’m breastfeeding and my little munchkin eats a lot. She gained 4 pounds this month! So, will I be able to start on this program given my current level of fitness (6 weeks ago my abs were stretched 1.5 feet out in front of my body) and be able to eat enough calories to do this and breastfeed a very hungry baby? I don’t like supplementing my diet with protein powders, etc. when breastfeeding.

20I would like to start this program for myself as well as my son to help him get through the police academy.
My question is this: I have a previous back injury and I am very overweight, will I be able to perform these routines? They seem pretty intense.

21How reasonable is the diet. I suppose its a continuous menu of beans. I don’t like beans. Are there substitutes for some of the food items on the nutrition plan for those of us that may have dislikes. Just to make clear, I do like salads vegetables etc., and I am not trying to get out of eating healthy.

22I’ve been having some doubts about the p90x and wondering if it actually works or not. I watched infomercials for it and I wanted it cause they made it seem like it really works, so I ordered it yesterday because I’m tired of looking the way i do. and i want to get muscle and abs so i don’t half to go to the lake and half to suck in my stomach every time a hot girl comes by. I know its funny but i just want something to work for me, i cut out my cold drinks 2 days ago and now I’m only drinking water and milk, I’m just ready for a change, I’ve also been reading everybody’s comments on here and it seems that p90x does work, I’m giving it a shot so here it goes

25Beth, I just wanted to say that I completely understand not being able to keep up and your form being sloppy but be cautious. I have been in the military for 10 years and I can tell you 1 thing about exercising that is most crutial. Form is more important than repetition. When doing an exercise correctly, you will move each muscle needed for that exercise. If you do not try to keep as best form as possible and do that continuously then it can cause pain in places because you may over work one area.
Example: when doing a push-up, your back should be straight, your arms aligned with your shoulders and your legs extended. If you are unable to keep your back straight and you have your legs extended, you can cause yourself to obtain severe lower back pain. My suggestion would be that you try to do as many correctly as possible and then when you can’t keep your back straight any longer. Go to your knees and put your feet in in the air and cross your ankles. From there you can keep your back straight easier and continue to do a good upper body form.
I hope that makes sense.

26Tried this when my son got it last year – too out of shape/overweight.
Got into a professionally managed (kinesiologists/dieticians/etc.) cardiac rehab program, and improved enough in six months to start the program. I have difficulty completing all the modules, so I stop whenever I feel I’m at my limit, and I don’t beat myself up over it.
The key is to go slow. Forget about 90 days if you are really out of shape. Think long-term lifestyle change. My goal is to be able to perform the whole program 6 months from now (one year after making the lifestyle change) and continue from then on.

27I used be able to do a whole backflip when I was playing football in highschool, about two years ago. Not that you have to be able to jump high or anything, you just need good body control. I tried to do a whole backflip in my back yard about two weeks ago… but i been lazy since i stopped playing ball, i had to use my hands to avoid landing on my face because I was out of shape. I started P90X about a week and a half ago and Ive been doing backflips like its nothing today…

28I’m very interested in the program. My hesitation is doing the program every day. I would like to see results as quickly as possible but I want to be realistic at the same time. Do you need to do the program everyday? Will I see results if I do the program 3 days a week? After 90 days is there a general program that is given or would I continue the same work out from the beginning?

31Jennifer- i had my second baby 6 months ago anf started the program last week. If you are at a healthy weight and that it not your focus , i say go for it, but since you are still feeding eat the same food you are already eating just have more snacks because you will need the energy to keep your feeding up. Once you are done if you want to loose wait then start the nutrition plan. I only do the workout cause i cant afford to lose any more after 6 months of feeding!! Good luck!!

33Been on this for a week now. Started working out every other day 4 months prior. Im glad I did. I am getting my ass kicked. I thought I was in shape before I started. I am 31 have three kids and work from home. I was at 31 percent body fat and miserable. I am now at 25 percent body fat and enjoy my workouts – I follow a healthy diet before and incorporate what works for me and my family. Im 5 ft 8 and am looking forward to the two piece suit in Aruba in January that I have put up for the 8 some years while having kids. This only works for those who want it to work. There is no magic button, it didn’t take overnight to put the pounds on , so give it a try- I also drink a protein and whey shake from GNC within an hour of working out – it helps not be sore the next day, I had no idea until I started this program that is what some of those drinks were for. I always thought it was for bulking up. I can’t do a chin up yet, but it doesn’t bother me cause I try anyway. TRYING is key.

36Just started P90x today. Male, 21 years old. Weighing in at 182 currently, and I’m 71 inches tall… Just a bit overweight. I HATE IT!!! I really want to get into the 160-170 lb. range. The work out i’m doing right now is the lean one. Question to the experienced P90x users: What do I need to do to lose my little belly and my love handles and buttocks!? I’m desperate to feel confident enough to have my shirt off again. :/ I have been lazy this past year and didn’t realize I had gained all this weight. It’s depressing but I am really motivated and pretty strong, mentally and physically. Just need some help on all this.
Oh and tomorrow I’m getting some work out resistance bands and a pull up bar. Anything else anyone want to recomend???
Oh, and what is a good diet? I told myself no more soda or fast food from now on… but I can’t think of what I’m going to eat now!

39I’ve heard lots of good things about P90X from friends and was looking to start it in about a month. I am in good physical condition and right now am doing 1hr of cardio 6 days a week and eating a health balanced diet. My only concern is that when I start this program I will be 4 months post a hernia operation. I feel great and am going to start some moderate weight lifting shortly but minimal ab workouts. Will the daily ab ripper be attainable for me?
Thank you

40@Jeff – don’t get discouraged. Wanting to change your lifestyle and get fit is the first step.
I think that your goal is realistic, but also realize that you will be GAINING some muscle mass as well.
The program is designed to help you lose weight through the cardio and stretching, while gaining strength.
There is no way to lose weight from specific areas of your body, since fat is lost “evenly” from your body as you work out.
You don’t need the bands if you have the chin up bar. Use light weights and focus on getting through each dvd. The weights really mean nothing in P90x. I’ve burnt myself out doing the shoulder and arms video using very light weights when i started. Picking a weight and rep numbers that you’re comfortable enough doing the whole video is CRUCIAL.
One last thing… stick to their schedule, and don’t skip yoga and stretching. They’re really important to fat loss and help in the healing process… and they burn like hell while you do them…
Dieting with P90x is pretty common sense.
1) cut out pop… all of it… eventually you won’t even want it
2) reduce your carbs… NOT CUT… reduce…
3) reduce your portion size… this is tricky with families as they will always tell you you didn’t eat enough… stay strong… don’t eat more food than you can hold in your 2 hands.
Good luck and BRING IT.
Curt

42I have just started yesterday on the lean program and I am having a hard time with the rolls that the one girl came up with is there anything else I can do until I get the flexibility and balance to do them. I also think because I am 235 and 5’8″ and my big belly gets in the way . My plan is to do the lean to lose some weight than pick one of the other programs to bulk up and get stronger .

43COST OF MEAL PLAN
I also didn’t have money for the meal plan and sometimes I thought things were a waste (making about 4L of gaspacheo soup when I would only be drinking 1 cup and the rest going bad)
Instead I would look at the AMOUNT of calories and substitue the best I could. We all have to remember that this is OUR exercise plan and we are allowed to modifiy it.

45I bought the p90x package over a year ago..did it for a week or 2..or less, and stopped. Did that a dozen times. Work, career and everything else got in the way, and I never could keep up. After just 3-4 days of doing p90x you will feel different!. However, something always came up to stop my routine. I was always quite comfortable with my huge gut and size! I was married…so who cares how I looked right!? Although I would was always embarrased of my gut and fat!..I always managed to put it behind me….im 6 ft tall and weigh atleast 240 pounds. Its only when my doctor told me last year…probably within 6 months id be a diabetic if I didnt start to make some changes!
Like I said,..i did the p90x for a couple days…then forot about it. UNTIL.. I went to a buffet couple months ago..and after I was done eating, I got a serious Dizzy Spell! Never had that before..an it scared the $hit out of me!!
Last month (dec 2010) I decided I had enough. I started p90 xagain seriously in the begining of december..and did it untill christmas..again stoping! but not completely…I did it a couple days in between the Christmas and New Years..and again.. now im back on the train completely again since Jan 2nd!. All this time..in addition to the Work outs..ill be honest, I looked at the meal plan and knew it was impossible for me to keep up with, so I just did the obvious.. Knocked out ALL soft drinks…AND sugary juices! I live on Water and Green TEA!!,… brewed Green tea..not the nestea nonsense. practically NO sugar.. Every morning I eat a full break fast..2 eggs, 2 slices of whole wheat toast, and 3 strips of bacon. I know the bacon is probably not the best to eat, but atleast its some comfort food!. For lunch, I eat a salad and grilled chicken or fish. For dinner..I always eat Steamed or grilled vegetables!! (the garden mix!..frozen in the bag from Costco!) along with some sort of meat..i.e Grilled chicken, fish..or even a sausage or 2! Throughout the day I eat snacks such as Yogurt (Activia) or Fruits. And I also blend fruits in my magic bullet (frozen fruits you buy in the bag at Costco) and drink that atleast twice a day. I drink a bottle of water EVERY hour on the hour! I set my cell phone alarm for it !! On days when Im fed up of the same old food..I treat my self to a PHO..which is a vietnamese soup, basicaly liquid and meat with a lil noodles.
Thats ALL ive been eating for the month and change now.. minus Christmas eve/day and Newyears eve/day. I havent lost any kind of weight to talk about…but!!.. Im wearing clothes that were way too small for me that I had put away for 2 years now!.. nice clothes that I always wanted to wear..but never did cause It looked like I had to grease my self to get into it If I wore it!. My size 38 waist now easily fits into a 36 with room to spare..and I feel like a million bucks!! People and WOMEN! who I see every day even noticed a change in my shape!!! Im dead serious about my p90x now..i do it EVERYDAY..and will continue to! EVERYDAY!..the rest day..do the cardio!! To every one who is atempting to try it …my advise is to you..MAKE UP YOUR MIND..STICK TO IT!..and STICK AS CLOSE TO THE MEAL PLAN AS REALISTICALLY AS YOU CAN!. You will not only feel better, Be healthier, but your self confidence will start going through the roof! It takes only a little more than an hour out of your day…a small price to pay for the benefits you will reap! GOOD LUCK!! Dont be phased if you can do the whole routines..atleast do half!..and do a little more every day untill you can do the whole thing!

46James good advice. However, the bacon every day is probably not a good idea. I am addicted to bacon and have at to cut it out. p90x allows for bacon but it has to be the turkey bacon. Its actually not that bad – try it. ITs the little changes that make a difference over time i think. Turkey bacon instead of real bacon, soy patties instead of real sausage patties, no pop, whole wheat or rye instead of white, etc. etc.
My biggest challenge is gonna be cutting out beer, dont think i can cut it out completely.

47I’m a full time student. I’m not fat, but I’m not in great shape either. I have been looking at p90x for maybe even more than a year now. Only problem is, I don’t even know if I can afford it. I do know that I could put it into my schedule, even with all the things I have going on everyday. Would it really be worth the money? I mean, you’d think after all the testimonies I’ve seen and heard and read from people, I’d be sold, but it IS quite expensive for someone like me.
I just really want to keep as far away as possible from becoming diabetic, especially since it runs in my family. Plus, it wouldn’t be too bad if I got some tone in my muscles.
How long are the workouts, and is there anyway that I can still tone or lose weight if I don’t strictly follow the meal plan? That’s the thing that would be difficult for me, because I am lucky if I have time to eat two meals a day as it is. Thoughts, anyone?

52Going to start P90X tomorrow, I put it off for 20 days, some new years resolution that was
Like all 51 comments i read I am nervous about the nutrition plan. I am Male, 167, 5’8 so Im not obese or anything but losing my stomach and being glad to take off my shirt would be a bonus!
I am probably going to take a picture a day, i recommend everyone else does it 2. Now if your totally unsure there is a guy on youtube who posted his story about it. He made his own iron man costume and goes to cosplays and stuff. Like that guy for me did it, he made me wanna do the program.
Good luck to everyone!!!!

53Hey Karalee Im no fitness expert but I do know that muscle does weight more then fat. So that could be your problem if your not seeing change. But like my personal trainers at the gym would say. Your not gonna see results right away. And thats what makes people get unmotivated. So stick to it.

54I’m 16, 5’7, 125lbs, and ready to turn heads. I’ve been the short skinny dude all my life among a lot of athletic friends and am ready to move to the top in terms of fitness. I run about 6 miles a day with my track team so I don’t know where that puts me on the “fitness” scale – but I’ve heard nothing but good things about this program so I’m really excited. If anybody has any tips for starters/getting the lean but strong look – fill me in. Thanks.

55Came here looking for negative things about P90X, still can’t find any! So it looks like the wife, daughter and myself will give this a try.
Though I do have an answer for those that are wondering why they are not losing weight. Muscle weight more than fat! I have been graced with a very high metabolism, but now that I’m 47 and sitting behind a desk, it has failed me. It did this to me once before, and I went out and got a very physical part time job. That’s where I noticed I was losing inches on my pants size, but not weight on the scale.
So I’d say to all those looking to lose weight, throw the scale out!! Weight itself is not your enemy, fat weight is, not muscle weight.

56Karalee, from all the forums I’ve read, three weeks with no weight loss is 100% normal. They even mention something called DOMS, which more or less means (in stupid talk) When you work out your body works overtime to heal your muscles (As though your body thinks it’s being attacked). Muscles get protected with fluid. So more fluid in the body can actually mean weight gain! So no worries. Usually at the 30/60/90 days everything is on the up and up and you should notice a weight loss. If after the 60 day mark, it’s no longer the fluid, its the food you’re eating. If anyone has more info, please share it!!!

58i finished p90x, no energy drinks, regular brand protein shakes after work outs. gained 6 pounds and im very cut now. this thing works.
as for nutrition i didnt follow it to the exact instructions… i just stopped drinking pop everyday, way more water, nothing deep fried, and no take out. changed anything white to brown or whole wheat and i gained the muscle weight i wanted. also i never used any energy drinks. i drank protein shakes and thats about it
im doing it for the second time now, havent worked out in 2 months and havent lost much of the definition i gained… but yeah its a great challenge and its not impossible.
im a smoker and i drink 4 nights a week, i eat healthy and im in great shape thanks to p90x. get it.

59I would like those of you out there to know that if you just try it, you just might like it. before buying P90X I had lost 128pounds on my own but there was no one guiding me on how to follow a meal plan or even a fitness routine. in order to lose inches and weight and be in the best shape as possible. you have to do them all at the same time. P90X offers just that. I’m 46 years old and I’m starting to be in the best shape that I could be in. It takes one day at a time, so give it a try. remember you can always send it back for a full refund.

60thanks to those who answered my questions. The scale is starting to move and after a month I have lost a total of 10 inches off my body. when tony says this program will get you in the best shape of your life he isn’t lying. I went on the treadmill last night to see if my endurance had changed at all. I was able to run at 7kms for 16 mins without a break. I have never been able to do that in my life. I love P90X!!!!!!!!!!

63I have a question about this, after the 90 days are over, what happens then?

64Dee, I have seen this question asked a few times here in the comments section. The best thing about p90x is that it isn’t just a thing that expires in 3 months, and it isn’t just one routine you do over and over every day. P90x in my opinion is nothing more than all the tools you need to change your life. So after 90 days you continue to eat healthy take a week or two off to recharge and still keep active then rock and roll all over again.

65I’m on my 8 week going to 9, no results because it’s hard to follow the nutrient guide when you eat the same food as your family members. I chose Classic and that one didn’t give me the results so after my 90 days with that one is done, I’ll start over again choosing the Lean version – burn more fat as it says in the fitness book.
Equipment you need:
1. Back, Legs, Shoulders, Chest, biceps and Triceps – Push up bar, set of Weights (recommend the ones you can change the Lbs) or Resistance Band, Paper Plate or towel when doing side push ups and Chin-up Bar .
2. Yoga X, X Stretch & Ab Ripper X<<(just need mat) – Yoga Mat and Yoga Block
3. Hear rate monitor – for Plyometrics, Kenpo X and Cardio X
4. Chair – Plyometrics, chin ups
5. Water, Towel, Work out sheets (download at Beachbody.com)
6. Just do your best and forget the rest and just bring it

66I started P90X! 7 Month ago and DAMN! I LOST 55 LBS! I use to be 260 and now i am at 205! I use to wear size 40 PANTS! and dropped down to SIZE 34 PANts! Unbelievable results. I made time for my P90X since im a busy guy, I have 2 JOBS! and i go to COLLEGE! and the only time i have for a work out is in the mourning.
yes at the VERY BEGINNING IT WAS VERY HARD but i took it very slow. The 1st week i just wanted to try my fitness level for this program so i tried to follow the videos for the 1st 7 days and it was an epic FAIL! but i didnt give up. So when i said take it slow for beginners i did the workout every other day and did as much as i can i never really did the yoga kempo and xstrech because i could barely lift my own body. so i just did the day-1 day-3 and day-5 workouts for 2 month so i can build muscle stregth and after 2 month i started the real work out and man did i see results from my upper body i slacked on the ab ripper because it was so hard… 3 month in my arms shoulder and back huge results. i regret not doing ab ripper.

68Big thing with p90x is getting discouraged. Ive always been overweight but ive also always been active playing sports. So i figured id be able to do it. I was wrong. Lasted three days and said eff it. My issue was i tried to go all out exactly the workouts they are doing. I just started it again almost 2 years later and lemme tell u. Go slow. Off the start if u havent been totally active leading up to it. Go through the dvds and find one that u find fun. Kenpo or plyo are my favs and do them to ur limit and go in with the mind set that its okay not to make it through the full dvd. Then once ur at a point where ur doing good. Begin the full robust XTREME program that p90x is!! BRING IT!!

69I work 7 days on and 7 days off. I was wondering if I can still be able to do P90X effectively. There are guys at work that are doing it but they don’t seem to be changing in their appearance at all. I think it will be hard to stay on the program since I work 12-14 hour days/nights while at work. I am in the Oil Field and I think if there is a way to stay on track ALL the time(At work and days off)that I can convince many other guys to join the P90X challenge.I REALLY want to do this program but don’t want to waist my money if It doesn’t work with my work schedule

71February 28 I weighed 200.0 lbs (male 5’10″). This is when I started the Power 90 Master Series (P90x is coming soon). It is May 17 and I lost 26 lbs (actually I was down 26 lbs about two weeks ago..). I feel great. My love handles are almost gone. This works. just be committed to it. you’ll be happy with the results.
